A leading pharmaceutical company, preparing for its annual kick-off conference for 650 employees, wanted to reimagine the traditional format.

In previous years, day one had been heavily presentation-led, leaving limited room for interaction or collaboration. This year, the leadership team wanted something different — an experience that would:

Our Solution

Our Event Management team began by collaborating closely with the client’s leadership and HR teams to understand:

  • Their strategic priorities and conference themes.
  • The impact they wanted to create through charitable involvement.
  • Their chosen partner charities and how these could be authentically integrated into the event.

Working within the event’s budget, we engaged our team-building partners to explore creative ways to merge learning, engagement, and giving. The result was a bespoke interactive experience called “The Apprentice Charity.”

The Concept: “The Apprentice Charity”

Inspired by the fast-paced dynamics of The Apprentice, this custom-designed challenge brought the company’s business themes to life through teamwork, strategy, and social impact.

Employees were divided into cross-functional teams and given an initial sum of money to “invest.”

To earn more funds, teams had to ask insightful business-related questions, applying problem-solving and communication skills aligned with the day’s learning sessions.

Once they secured their budget, teams went out into the local area to source and purchase essential items requested by their chosen charities — from healthcare supplies to community essentials.
They had to negotiate prices, manage time effectively, and make smart purchasing decisions to maximize their impact.

Throughout the challenge, collaboration, creativity, and purpose were at the forefront — echoing the company’s key theme of accelerating results through teamwork and innovation.

Results

The “Apprentice Charity” event transformed day one of the conference into a dynamic, memorable experience that left a lasting impression across all levels of the organisation.

Outcomes included:

  • 97% positive participant feedback, with employees describing the activity as “motivating,” “fun,” and “meaningful.”
